We run three weekly drop-in cafés in Caterham, Horley and Redhill, running during school term times.
Each session is two hours long and is supported by a qualified breastfeeding counsellor, a member of the health visiting team and trained peer supporters.
Our sessions are free to attend, although donations are always appreciated! You will find our cafés welcoming and informal. There is no need to book but if you feel you need to see a breastfeeding counsellor we would ask you to arrive by 11am if possible. Partners and other supporters are always welcome!
Our long-established breastfeeding support groups have been running in Caterham, Horley and Redhill since 2007/8, when they were first set up under the NCT’s Baby Café brand.
We lost our funding, venues and brand when the Children’s Centres closed in 2018/9.
A group of local mothers associated with the cafés decided to form a Community Interest Company to keep them running and our name was changed to Café Milk.
With funding support from First Community Health and Care and a grant from The Patrick Evans Foundation, the cafés were able to continue to run in venues offered by Oakhall Church, YMCA Horley and The Harlequin Theatre.
After the sad closure of The Harlequin theatre building in 2023, we were grateful to be given a space in their temporary pop-up space in The Belfry. Café Milk Redhill moved to a new home in The Light in September 2024. We are very grateful to all of our past and present venues for accommodating us.
Since 2018 our cafés have been funded by grants from a variety of local charities and organisations. In 2022 we applied to convert to a charity and this application was approved in 2023.
